Harriman Campus
The
Harriman Research and Technology Development
Corporation, a subsidiary of Empire State
Development, is dedicated to transforming Albany’s
W. A. Harriman State Office Campus into a regional
growth engine for New York State’s “Innovation
Economy”. This website for the Harriman Campus
provides information about the exciting development
opportunities at the Albany location.
The Campus is “ready to build” and “ready to occupy”
and will offer development opportunities for
office/R&D facilities; administrative offices for
technology focused industries, and could include
hotel/conference facilities, residential development
and associated convenience retail. Opportunities for
adaptive reuse of existing buildings are available
as is an incubator program for new or developing
companies. Tenants enjoy easy access from the local
highway system, parking that is close to building
destinations and a suburban setting complete with
green areas and landscaped entry roads.
The plan for the
campus furthers the Upstate economic
development strategy of supporting industry
clusters, cluster development, university technology
transfer to the private sector and smart growth. The
330-acre Harriman Campus’s adjacency to the
University at Albany’s main campus, the University’s
College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering and the
growing SEMATECH complex, make it one of the most
valuable and underdeveloped locations in the region.
The preexisting transportation infrastructure,
existing day care facilities, and available land for
development make Harriman a prime site for putting
the Governor’s Upstate Economic Policy into action.
The Campus will also become a showcase for green
development, green workplaces, and sustainable
communities, emphasizing another of the Governor’s
top priorities.
In May of 2004, the Empire State Development
Corporation (ESDC) established a subsidiary, the
Harriman Research and Technology Development
Corporation (HRTDC), to lead the redevelopment
process. Its Board includes representation from each
of the major stakeholders – the New York State
Office of General Services (OGS), the University at
Albany, the City of Albany and the Upstate New
York’s Tech Valley business leaders.
